Daraja is currently seeking a Monitoring and Research Advisor, as an international internship position.

The role includes advising and supporting on the development and operations of monitoring and evaluation systems for Daraja's innovative programmes as well as working on a series of short research projects on local governance and accountability issues.

The position is suitable for a current student or recent graduate on a Masters Degree programme in International Development (or a similar subject). The successful applicant will have solid research skills and a strong commitment to promoting citizens' agency and government accountability.

The Swiss Cooperation (SC) in Tanzania focuses on three domains: Governance & Accountability, Private Sector Development in Agriculture (PSD) and Well Being (health and water). As a part of its activities, SC aims at supporting and enhancing the role of the private sector and strengthening the economy for the benefit of the rural poor people with a focus on improved access to markets for small and medium scale farmers and better quality of products.

The Swiss Cooperation is looking to hire a National Advisor for Private Sector
Development in the agricultural sector who will be working both on strategic as well as programme management level and supporting the SC Office (COOF) in the implementation of its Tanzanian Country Programme 2011 – 2015.

Key Responsibilities

Thematic policy dialogue: Represent the Swiss Cooperation concerns and
endeavors in the field of private sector development and agriculture towards
Tanzanian and international development partners, government and non-state actors
at various levels, drawing on the agency’s cooperation activities, partnership spirit programs and projects.

Program management: Technical, methodological and policy support to the
formulation, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation of projects and
programs in the field of private sector development, with a particular focus on
agriculture.  

Context analysis: Support the overall Swiss program development and the private sector development domain with well documented socio-economic and political
context analysis that will advise the strategy of the Swiss cooperation program in Tanzania in the field of private sector development in agriculture.

Qualifications and Experience
  1. Masters degree in Agricultural Economics, MBA-Agribusiness, Public
  2. Administration or other relevant discipline.
  3. At least 10 years of professional experience in the area of Private Sector
  4. Development and profound knowledge of the agricultural sectors.
  5. Extended knowledge and capacities to analyze trends in the area of (macro) economy, but particularly in the area of Private Sector Development, trade and
  6. economic growth in agriculture.
  7. Strong track record of program management (Project Cycle Management).
  8. Sound knowledge of the national policy environment in Tanzania, economic
  9. growth, pro-poor policies.
  10. Organization of program implementation including formulating Terms of
  11. References, defining budgets, monitoring contracts, etc.
  12. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal English and Kiswahili as well as strong management, communication and coordination skills.
  13. Ability to work in a complex and dynamic organizational setting, in a multi-cultural environment and delivering at tight deadlines with minimal supervision
