Position Description:
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.
In all assignments, UNV volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effective can positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist UNAIDS for coordination and facilitation of the Joint UN Team on meetings in Zanzibar.
• Develop and maintain the calendar of joint programme events in Zanzibar
• Meetings and consultation activities between and among the joint UN team and ZAC and other related partners.
• Assist the National Coordinator in ZAC and the Managing Agent (UNDP) to prepare and share the quarterly requests
• Follow up with UN Agencies and other actors on prior commitments to the programme and on reporting requirements
• Assist the National coordinator in ZAC to follow -up the submission to managing Agent periodic progress reports from the joint UN Programme on AIDS.
• Maintain a file of the minutes of joint UN Programme meetings and other extra ordinary meeting
• Keep up-dated list of UN Joint Team members and other email distribution list.
• Assist in facilitating communication and experience sharing within the Joint team and with local partners.
• Liaise with UNAIDS and joint Programme Coordination officer in mainland to ensure proper information management between the two Joint UN Teams.
• Undertaking other assignments as defined by the UNAIDS Country coordinator.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
• A university degree or equivalent in health, social science or relevant discipline
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience preferably in coordination and communication of HIV/AIDS or health related
• Former field experience with NGO’s with Most -At-Risk populations will be an asset.
• Knowledge and understanding of the UN system will be an asset.
• Excellent skills in oral and written English.
